The crash occurred around 4:19 a.m. near the intersection of Kings Highway South and Janes Lane, Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville said. Responding troopers found a 2014 Toyota Sienna fully engulfed in flames. Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling northbound on Kings Highway South when it left the roadway and hit a tree.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at 5:21 a.m. at the scene, according to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 3, to determine the cause of death. While officials have made a tentative identification, the man’s name will not be released until a positive ID is confirmed and his family has been notified, the coroner’s office said. The process could take several days due to the severity of fire-related trauma.
The crash shut down Kings Highway South for several hours as police and forensic investigators worked the scene. The roadway reopened at approximately 8:10 a.m., officials said.
The Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville Patrol Unit is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Lehigh County Coroner's Office, East Greenville Fire Company, and PENNDOT.
